Kellogg's Love Your Cereal Mom's Breakfast Club- Week 7
Now that we know each other a little better over here, I feel like I can tell you: I'm not always a good breakfast eater.
Part of it is that I usually don't get hungry until around 9:30 or 10:00 am. I've always been like that, even as a kid. So, sometimes it's hard for me to get enthused about getting breakfast on the table on hectic school mornings.
But, make no mistake, even with teenagers, we always serve breakfast, and my kids eat it, though I think the youngest has inherited my penchant for late breakfast. Besides being the right thing to do nutrition-wise, it's just part of our routine, and sticking with one routine helps the day go more smoothly.
We also quickly review the calendar before everyone leaves for the day. It's helpful to visualize what the day will bring, and it (usually) keeps us from forgetting to pick up a kid, since getting left at school doesn't exactly help the day have a positive spin.
As we've talked about before, one of the most important things for us to start the day on a positive note is to make sure everyone is ready for school the night before. If we're organized, and on time, everyone leaves the house in a better mood, and that sets the tone for the day. Since cereal is quick and easy to serve, it often plays a big part in our ability to get out of the house on time.
Cereal can be a convenient and affordable part of a balanced, nutritious breakfast. Want to know more? Check out Kellogg's Love Your Cereal.

I get up an hour earlier than the kids and calmly get their stuff ready for school and their breakfast on the table. If I oversleep, I run around like a maniac and it's very draining.

I have two small boys, so there is no possible way to ENSURE that the day starts off on a positive note. Little boys are prone to be unreasonable about the silliest things (I didn't want ketchup on my sandwich today, or a fight to brush their teeth). I try to stay on our tight schedule - not leaving much room for negotiation. Get them up and out the door quickly and efficiently. Avoid conflict. Never try to make any important decisions (like if a they can have a playdate this weekend) during our morning routine. Most important of all, we start with a kiss and hug!

I prep things the night before to make sure the morning runs smoother! Then my daughter and I eat together and chat a few minutes before she heads up to the bus! I also make sure to tell her to have a great day and that I love her before she leaves. I prefer that she leaves on a positive note...

My mornings are pure chaos on most days. I'm the first one up, and have to wake up both kids and the hubby. First, I get my son ready, fed, and off to school. Then, since we are a one-vehicle home, I take my hubby to work, so I can keep the car during the day. What's hard, is that we live about 40 minutes away from town where he works, so you can imagine that drive everyday both ways. During this drive, I take along my 3 year old, who loves to be loud, not stay still in her car seat, and everything else imagineable. To keep things positive running smoothly, I make sure I have plenty of caffeine, take breakfast for her to munch on, and BREATHE! Also, before my son and my hubby both leave for the day, Kira and I both tell them that we love them and to have a great day, and they all get kisses! Simple and sweet!

Mornings are rough for me because I work 2nd shift and then come home and try to unwind before bed. Sometimes I don't fall asleep until 3am...that 6:45 alarm clock makes for a rough morning! When I want to have a good day, I wake up 15 minutes before I get my 14 year old daughter out of bed and have a Diet Coke and relax before the chaos starts. My daughter is not the most pleasant person in the morning and it's a bad combo if I'm cranky too....much better for me to psych myself up for 15 minutes before she gets out of bed.
