Kellogg's Love Your Cereal Mom's Breakfast Club- Week 6
It's Back to School time for many of us as summer draws to a close. However, we've been in school for about a month here, so we're sort of back in the swing of things. Though it's never easy, there are a few things I try to do to help get back in the school routine.
Every year I say I'm going to try to make the kids go to bed earlier at the end of the summer, so that the school routine won't be such a shock, but somehow it never works out that way. However, I hear it's a good thing to do.
I try to purchase and label all their school supplies in plenty of time before school starts so that we're not up and crazy the night before the first day.
I also force myself to get in the habit of getting(or remind people to do so) backpacks packed and lunches made the night before, because I always regret it when I don't. (Heh, right after I typed that, I realized I never put the drink money in my youngest's backpack tonight)
I also make an effort to do a "big" grocery shop in preparation for back to school so that we have what we need on hand for meals, especially breakfast, so we don't have to make late night runs to the store. We can never have too much cereal or waffles around these parts.
Cereal can be a convenient and affordable part of a balanced, nutritious breakfast. Want to know more? Check out Kellogg's Love Your Cereal.

It's been rough. We start going to bed earlier and try to mimic the school routine in the days before school starts.

We try to adjust our sleep pattern to going to bed earlier about a week before school starts. This helps us get used to the new schedule a little bit.

I am not a morning person, so to make the back to school routine easier, I will make breakfast foods on Sundays that can be reheated each morning. Sometime it is pancakes, waffles, or breakfast burritos. That way the family can have these foods without getting myself frazzled every morning trying to cook a big breakfast.

We don't have any trouble because my kids have always been in year-round or modified calendar schools. So going back to school for a new year is no different than the rest of the kids going back to school on a Monday after having Saturday and Sunday off. We have school day routines and we stick to them.

We start going to bed earlier about 2 weeks before school starts and waking up to the alarm clock in the morning to get us back into the swing of getting up early. It also helps to lay out clothes and find missing shoes the night before so there's no panic search-and-destroy mission in the morning.
It really doesn't help much..my daughter is 14 and I spend most of the morning screaming "hurry up or you're going to be late" because she's worshiping the bathroom mirror.

As the mother of two teenagers, I just sort of hope for the best and run for cover. At this age, they have to learn to be responsible for their own sleep schedule. I do take them school supply shopping before the start of school. But really, all they want is my credit card. They don't like the budget that comes with it so much. What? You don't have a money tree in your backyard?
